2018 Enrollment Brochure for the "Visiting Program for Young Sinologists" (Xi'an)

I. Program Profile

The "Visiting Program for Young Sinologists" was initiated by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2014, aiming to build a platform to support overseas young research personnel of "Chinese Studies" and Think-tank scholars in communication and research, to provide them with convenient and practical help in academic research and creation, support them in carrying out exchange and cooperation programs with Chinese excellent local academic, cultural and educational institutions, organizations, enterprises and scholars, and help them to improve their academic level and international influence.

As President Xi Jinping put forward the Belt and Road Initiative, Xi'an, as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and a hinterland city of China, has become the frontier of China's opening to the outside world and an important node and core area of the new Silk Road economic belt, and its strategic and cultural influence has attracted more and more attention from overseas scholars. In order to further promote and implement the Belt and Road strategy, and combine Sinology and the study of the Belt and Road concept, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China decided in 2016 to extend the "Visiting Program for Young Sinologists" to Xi'an, so that Xi'an, the starting point of the Silk Road, will become an important platform for the Sinologists in the world to understand the Chinese history and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The "Visiting Program for Young Sinologists" (Xi'an) has been successfully held 2 sessions and attracted more than 50 overseas Sinologists. Based on the subject of the activity, the hosts made elaborate design, scientific arrangements, and careful organization, so as to highlight the theme orientation of the Belt and Road in the design of lectures, selection of visiting units as well as the arrangements of cultural activities. The program has successfully achieved the expected purpose, won wide acclaim from the Sinologists, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture, as well as the co-organizers of the visiting program, and attracted sustained attention and coverage from a number of central and Shaanxi media including Xinhua News Agency, CHINANEWS.com, people.cn, SHW.cn, Shaanxi Daily, Xi'an Daily, and cnwest.com.
