He served as the co-chair of JRST Award Selection Committee of NARST, a world-wide organization for improving science teaching and learning (2011-2012). He also served as an executive committee member of EASE(2015-2018), and a member of the NAPLES (Network of Academic Programs in the Learning Sciences) Task Force and the membership committee of the fastest growing education researchers’ community-- International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) (2011-now).

He is a member of the Steering Committee for Professional Teaching of Educational Technology in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education of China (2013-2017). He was elected as a vice-president of the Chinese Learning Sciences Association, a branch of the China Higher Education Association (2013-2017). He was also elected as a deputy-secretary general of the National Association for Science Education, the Chinese Society of Education (NASE) (2013-2017). In 2015, he was appointed by China MOE to be the team leader to evaluate the National Chemistry Curriculum Standards for Deaf Students at Compulsory Education Stage.

He has also served or is serving as associate editor, editorial board member or reviewer for a number of English journals (such as the International Journal of Science Education, SSCI) or Chinese journals (such as the Journal of Open Education Research, CSSCI journal) that are based in US, UK, Turkey, Bahrain, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or mainland China on Educational Technology, Science Education, and/or the Learning Sciences. He has co-authored 12 SSCI journal papers and 22 CSSCI journals, one monograph, and edited 1 English and 2 Chinese International Conference proceedings, Co-edited 1 special issue of an SSCI journal (JOSET) and 1 special issue of another English journal (REPTL). Prof. BaoHui Zhang has presented education research work of his and his collaborators’ in 15 countries and regions.

He started his career as a high school chemistry teacher in 1989. Since 1991, his work has been mainly around teacher education, later his research also extended to student learning. He can teach some courses in education for undergraduate, master or doctoral students in both Chinese and English. From Singapore to China, Prof. Zhang has supervised postdoctoral fellows, doctoral students, visiting scholars, master and undergraduates who were from the US, Singapore, Canada, India, Indonesia, Yemen and China. His research has been in the intersection of educational technology, science education, and the learning sciences, which focuses on how to integrate ICT (Information and Communication Technology) into inquiry science learning in formal and informal settings and make the intervention sustainable and scalable. His collaborators in the US, Singapore, and China and he summarized their pedagogical models as iMVT and Seamless Learning, respectively, mainly at K-12 level. The pedagogy has been implemented as a web-based iMVT platform called WiMVT (Web-based Modeling and Visualization integrated inquiry-based science learning environment) in Singapore. Recently, he and some collaborators have developed knowledge and experience in assistive technology for learning. In Oct. 2012, he initiated and took charge to organize the International Conference in Science Education in Nanjing University (http://zhangbaohui.snnu.edu.cn/icse2012)which was the first for the National Association for Science Education, the Chinese Society of Education (NASE) after it was established. In Nov. 2014, he initiated and took charge  to organized the first conference of its kind in China, the International Forum on Assistive Technology for Learning at the School of Education, Shaanxi Normal University, Xian, China (http://zhangbaohui.snnu.edu.cn/ifatl2014/).
