On June 15 and 16, the delegation from U.S.-China Sports Cultural Exchange Center visited and had academic exchanges with Shaanxi Normal University''s School of Physical Education.
Prof. Ji Lili, Ph.D., director of the School of Kinesiology and professor and director of Laboratory of Physiological Hygiene and Exercise Science of University of Minnesota, Ms Brandi Hoffman, director of UMN''s Physical Activity Program, Ms Carrie Moore, director of Massachusetts Institute of Technology''s Physical Education and Mr. Bridget Melton, Georgia Southern University''s Physical Activity and Healthful Living former director are on the delegation.
In the afternoon of June 16, a symposium themed "Sports and College Life" was held at SPE.
The U.S. guests, SNNU''s Teaching Affairs Department director Li Gui''an and SPE dean Shi Bing joined representatives from sports departments of Xidian University, Northwestern Polytechnic University, Northwest University, Shaanxi University of Science & Technology, Baoji University of Arts and Sciences and Shangluo University and SNNU''s SPE attended the symposium.
Mr. Li and Shi spoke on behalf of SNNU and SPE, expressing the university''s wish to improve and reform PE teaching in universities.
SPE vice dean Kang Xilai briefed the audience about SPE''s history, programs and its course of College Sports.
Xidian''s College Sports department dean Yu Shaoyong presented the program "Sports in Xidian" and their experience in improving college students'' physique and health.
U.S. experts lectured under the titles of "Survey and Prospect of Sports Activity Class in US Universities", "Physical Education in US Higher Education", "Sports Activities in University of Minnesota" and " Physical Education in Massachusetts Institute of Technology".
After the lectures, they answered questions from their Chinese colleagues concerning physical education in universities, faculty development of PE teachers and students physique survey.
Accompanied by SPE''s Prof. Hu Baiping and Mr. Kang Xilai, the U.S. guests also visited the sports venues and facilities on SNNU''s two campuses, observed the College Sports class during their visit.
