About the Lecture:

Domesticviolence is the result of the patriarchy marriage structure. The Chineseancient law system with a typical feature of making rituals into law showedgreat partiality for men. A man who abused his wife was barely punished, whilethe wife who took any disobedient behaviors would get lesser punishment likeflogging or even being executed to death if severely. This prejudice from thelaw made domestic violence in traditional Chinese society more and moreserious. Therefore, domestic violence in contemporary Chinese society has itshistorical reasons, but the lack of related law has a certain relationship.
